Cereulide Toxin Poisoning Linked to Recalled Baby Formula

It has been reported that the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) is investigating 36 cases of children falling ill after being fed batches of baby formula that have since been recalled.

It is understood that Nestlé recalled more than 60 batches of its SMA baby formula in January 2026 following concerns about the presence of cereulide, a heat-resistant toxin known to cause symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhoea. Danone has also recalled a batch of its Aptamil formula.

Investigation and Product Recalls

The recalls have affected both powdered and pre-mixed formula products intended for babies and young children. It has been widely reported that the UKHSA has received 36 clinical notifications of potential cases of cereulide toxin poisoning across the UK, arising after infants and toddlers consumed formula from the recalled batches.
