Phoenix Legal Limited Trainee Solicitor Oliver Roberts Elected as Secretary of the Merseyside Junior Lawyers Division Committee for 2026/2027
Phoenix Legal Limited is pleased to announce that our Trainee Solicitor, Oliver Roberts, has been elected to serve as Secretary of the Merseyside Junior Lawyers Division (MJLD) Committee for 20226/2027.
The MJLD is an independent association affiliated with the National Junior Lawyers Division, providing an educational and professional support network for junior members of the legal profession across Merseyside. Its work includes professional and social networking events, educational talks and seminars, work experience opportunities, charity initiatives and opportunities for junior lawyers to engage with the wider legal community. Membership is free and open to a range of junior legal professionals.
The importance of networking
Networking can play an important role in the development of legal professionals, particularly at the early stages of a career. The legal profession is broad, and opportunities to meet people working in different areas of law can provide perspectives that are difficult to gain from day-to-day work alone.
The MJLD provides an opportunity for junior professionals across Merseyside to build those connections. Its events bring together individuals working across different areas of practice and at different stages of their careers, helping members to develop professional relationships outside their own workplaces.
A voice for junior lawyers across Merseyside
As Secretary, Oliver will contribute to the organisation and administration of the MJLD, working alongside the committee to support its activities and membership.
He is particularly interested in ensuring that the MJLD continues to reflect the diversity of the wider legal profession across Merseyside, including those working in smaller independent and high-street practices as well as larger firms.
Oliver is also passionate about social mobility and the practical impact that the cost of living can have on access to professional opportunities. Having personally balanced full-time study with paid work, including evening work, he understands that not every student or junior professional has the same ability to attend networking events, undertake unpaid opportunities or participate in professional development.
His aim is to help ensure that the MJLD remains an organisation where junior legal professionals from different backgrounds can meet, develop and contribute to the profession.
Join the Merseyside Junior Lawyers Division
Membership of the MJLD is free, and the organisation welcomes eligible junior members of the legal profession across Merseyside. Membership provides opportunities to participate in networking events, educational activities, work experience and other initiatives within the local legal community.
