On the 23rd August, our social media and marketing executive gave a £50 Andre’s Restaurant voucher to Harry Jones, the Mechanic/Coxswain for the Hoylake Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI).
The voucher was a donation from Phoenix Solicitors to Hoylake RNLI, to be used as a prize for their fundraising event on 26th August.
Hoylake and West Kirby Lifeboat Open Day is an annual community fundraising event hosted in support of the RNLI and regularly attracts around 10,000 visitors.
RNLI is a charity that saves lives at sea. They provide, on call, a 24-hour lifeboat search and rescue service and a seasonal lifeguard service.
Hoylake is one of the oldest lifeboat stations in the UK, established in 1803. For over 200, people from Hoylake have been volunteering as crew members to save lives of others at sea.
The station is located on Hoylake Promenade, where the Hoylake outdoor swimming baths used to be. It was funded through a £2 million RNLI national appeal and built between 2007 and 2008.
Hoylake’s lifeboat, the Shannon class 13-06 RNLB ‘Edmund Hawthorn Micklewood’, cover the approaches to Liverpool, the Dee Estuary and the Irish Sea and launches at all states of tide in any weather to people and vessels in distress.
Hoylake Lifeboat Station has several volunteers and one full-time crew, including coxswains, mechanics, navigators, shore crew and tractor drivers.
When our representative visited the station, she had an opportunity to talk to some of the fantastic crew members, as well as Carole Jackson, the Chairman of Hoylake & West Kirby Lifeboats Fundraising Committee.
The meeting was a fantastic opportunity for Phoenix Solicitors to learn more about our local RNLI and understand how the donation will help the station in fundraising.
Although their volunteers give their time for free, the charity replies entirely on public’s support to cover the costs of maintaining equipment, lifeboats, shore facilities and provide training.
Phoenix Solicitors were happy to donate and support their local charity.
