Louise Harvey, 36, had a tummy tuck and breast surgery at Transform Cosmetic Surgery clinic in London, reported BBC News.
Miss Harvey decided to have two operations at once as she was advised by the clinic that the overall cost would be cheaper if done together.
Following the three-hour operation, Miss Harvey was sent home two days later, on 17 June 2018. She was scheduled for a follow-up appointment on 26 June.
The 36-year-old collapsed on 3 July 2018. She died on 5 July 2018.
Post-mortem tests performed revealed that the mother-of-three died of a blood clot in her lungs.
Her cause of death was documented as bilateral pulmonary embolism. The secondary causes have been listed as abdominoplasty and breast augmentation.
The inquest in Norwich, where Miss Harvey was from, was told that Miss Harvey’s family had a history of blood clots. Her family’s history of deep vein thrombosis was listed in the pre-assessment form she has completed before the operation.
Miss Harvey’s mother, Linda Harvey, has stated that Louise was not given any blood thinners before she was sent home.
Her mother said that “Louise’s organs were giving up” due to the blood clots in her lungs and heart. (quoted from BBC News article)
Yvonne Blake, a Norfolk coroner, questioned Manish Sinha, Miss Harvey’s consultant plastic surgeon, if he knew about her family’s history of blood clots. Both her grandmother and her sister had a clot.
Mr Sinha has denied knowing this information.
To elaborate, he said that he does not usually read a pre-assessment form filled in by a patient with a nurse, unless it has been specified to him that there is anything he need to take into consideration.
The inquest continues.
