Law firm work shadowing
Each year from around the last week of June to the second week of July, Phoenix Solicitors opens their doors to students from our local Wirral schools for a week’s work placement.
This opportunity allows those students who may be considering a career in Law to come to the firm and shadow our staff for a week whilst undertaking some of the tasks that our support staff would be expected to carry out as part of their responsibilities.
Some students may be lucky enough to join us on a week then our Solicitors have a court hearing which the students can then go along to and experience a live Court hearing.
When our Solicitors do not have Court hearings for students to attend, we have plenty of research that students can assist with on live cases.
Legal Experience
Students can gain experience in Clinical Negligence, Housing, Landlord and Tenant, Commercial Law, Employment Law, Personal Injury and General Civil Litigation.
Freya from Wirral Girls School had this to say after her placement:
This week in my work experience spent at phoenix legal solicitors in Birkenhead, i have been able to get an insight as to what a job in law might be like and how I might be starting off in a job like this in the future. I have had the opportunity to read some cases of real claims from clients and summarise them as well as get a better understanding of the process of claims and how they are set up and also become to understand some of the terms used a bit better when going through and highlighting certain terms to keep them easy to access out of the rest of the papers. As well as this i had the opportunity to sit in on a cost and case management hearing where i got to watch the solicitor, barrister and judge discuss money and general questions to do with their client’s stories which i found quite interesting to see what actually happens inside of the courtroom and the dynamic and role of each side of the case. I have enjoyed this week as it has made me feel more in the real world with more of a sense for office work life.
